6th ANNUAL DARIUS GOES WEST DAY - SATURDAY JULY 24
Ciné hosts the 6th annual celebration of the Athens-based award-winning documentary film project DARIUS GOES WEST: THE ROLL OF HIS LIFE, in which fifteen-year-old Darius Weems and eleven of his best friends set off across America with the ultimate goal of getting his wheelchair customized on MTV’s Pimp My Ride. The result is a rarely seen testament to the explosive idealism of today’s youth, as well as a vivid portrayal of adventure, of brotherhood, and of the character and strength it takes to shed light on an uncertain future.
Not only does Darius Weems bravely face his own inevitable fate with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), but through his unflinching humor and his extraordinary laugh, he sparks a revolution in the lives of everyone who crosses–and then shares–his courageous path. Part revolution, part revelation, this film proves to people of all ages how life, even when imperfect, is always worth the ride.

SPECIAL SCREENING: THE HORSE BOY - WEDNESDAY APRIL 14
Cine presents a special one-day screening of the new documentary film, THE HORSE BOY, an intensely personal yet epic spiritual journey that follows one Texas couple and their autistic son as they trek on horseback through Outer Mongolia in an attempt to find healing for him. When two-year-old Rowan was diagnosed with autism, Rupert Isaacson, a writer and former horse trainer, and his wife Kristin Neff, a psychology professor, sought the best possible medical care, but traditional therapies had little effect. Then they discovered that Rowan has a profound affinity for animals—particularly horses—and the family set off on a quest that would change their lives forever. In telling one family’s extraordinary story, the film gives voice to the thousands who display amazing courage and creativity everyday in the battle against this mysterious and heartbreaking epidemic. The filmic companion to Isaacson’s best-selling book of the same name, this ravishing documentary odyssey is part travel adventure, part insight into shamanic healing and part intimate look at the autistic mind, and gives insight into how, in life’s darkest moments, one can find the gateway to joy and wonder.
SHOWTIMES: 5:15p & 7:30p - WED 4/14 |

SPECIAL SCREENING: BOY, INTERRUPTED - MONDAY APRIL 12
As part of their awareness week, NUCI'S SPACE presents this special screening of BOY INTERRUPTED, a documentary film by Dana Perry, who lost her son Evan to suicide at age 15. Perry has gathered home movies, photographs, and a variety of different documents to tell the story of her son: his bipolar illness, his life, and his death, and their impact on those who loved him the most. She interviews his siblings and friends, his doctors and his teachers, and in the process, she chronicles a harrowing and difficult journey. The camera provides insight and revelation, and the film's saving grace is that it functions, in the final analysis, as therapy for both its viewers and its subjects at a most fundamental level. What defines this film as a remarkably unique and truth-telling achievement is the way it explores how filmmaking can create closure for its creators as well as its audience.

After a decade in the drug game, the Flenorys had it all—a fleet of Maybachs, Bentleys and Ferraris, a 500-man workforce operating in six states, and an estimated quarter of a billion in drug sales.
